What is temporary housing?
To Disaster Services and the insurance
industry, temporary housing means providing a convenient,
cost-effective housing solution for the policyholder
while their property is being rebuilt. We will negotiate
the shortest lease term possible, furnish and manage
the property from move-in to move-out.
What kind of housing is available?
We can locate single-family homes, townhomes
or apartments throughout the mid-Atlantic area. Properties
are available furnished or unfurnished.
How quickly can you place a family into
temporary housing?
Within hours, Disaster Services can
provide hotel accommodations while we begin our
search for the optimum housing solution. Disaster
Services can have your family transitioned into
their fully furnished home within 3-4 business days.
How do you handle security deposits?
Normally, we collect the security deposit
from the insurance company but if you prefer, we will
collect it from the policyholder.
What about phone and utility charges?
Most insurance companies prefer the tenant
pay all utility charges. These expenses may or may not
be covered under the homeowners policy. We advise
the policyholder to discuss these payments with you
directly. Under special circumstances we can include
these expenses in the monthly lease.
Can the lease be renewed? What kind
of notice to vacate is required?
Yes. All our leases provide for month-to-month
renewal options and require 30 days notice to vacate.
What about pets?
We can accommodate most pets. Communities
and property owners may have special requirements. Our staff
will work with you and the policyholder to arrange payment
of any additional pet deposit.
What furnishings are included in temporary
housing?

and household items included, click

What happens if you cannot find housing
for the policyholder?
There is no expense to the insurance company
if we cannot locate an appropriate temporary home. We
are paid only if we have a signed lease with the insured.
We have no problem competing with other short-term housing
providers. Please call us if you would like a free market
analysis or a second opinion.
How is Disaster Services different
from other temporary housing companies?
Disaster Services began in Annapolis,
Maryland and we now service clients in Maryland, Virginia,
Washington DC, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Since we
are a regionally-based company, our staff is able to
meet personally with our clients to view potential properties
and sign leases. We know neighborhoods and property
managers that national companies overlook. We understand
the importance of placing people in temporary housing
close to their families, friends, schools and work.
Were a privately held company interested in staying
connected to our clients and their policyholders.
